So I think we can pretty much say that summer is over here in the Netherlands. I know, I’m feeling a winter depression coming up already too. But one thing that makes me feel quite better when September turns into October is booking a winter holiday to some place where the sun shines. And while I’m behind my laptop, why not treating myself to buying a bikini online? If you’re not a professional online shopper like I am read my practical tips right here!

Always check the style of the bikini you want to buy. Apart from whether it’s a halter or bandeau top, make sure to check how much coverage the bottom has and if has a ruched back for example. Sometimes details are not very visible on the pictures so make sure to check all the specifications.

Not only check the brand’s size table, but also the size that the model is wearing in the picture and her measurements. It’s really helpful to get you an indication. If the model’s measurements are not mentioned on the site don’t hesitate to contact customer service. They’re more than willing to help!

What kind of material do you prefer in swimwear? Nowadays it seems like they make a bikini out of almost everything! But as you’ll see online most of the bikinis are made from a combination of polyamide and elastane. Good to know: the more elastane in a bikini the more elastic it is and tighter around your body. And the more polyamide in a bikini the less it crinkles!

Check both the product images as the brands campaign images because the colors may differ in both pictures. This happens more than you think unfortunately and if you double check upfront you’ll avoid disappointment later on.

If you’re buying from a multi-brand webshop I recommend to always check the brands website too. Even if they don’t have a webshop but only show campaign images on their site. The reason for this is that the brand wants to display a certain image with specific models and look & feel that a multi-brand webshop can’t always convey in the same way. This means that the same bikini may seem very different.

Last but not least… the models in the pictures have been retouched and have perfect exposure. Unfortunately that’s not the situation when you try on the bikini for the first time at home. But hey, that will probably motivate you to visit the gym (and maybe even a tanning salon) a couple of times more often before that winter holiday ;)

Happy online shopping ladies!
